Bengaluru: One of Bengaluru’s homegrown digital news platforms is taking a step beyond borders. In a sign of changing tides in regional journalism, Kannada News Today, a digital news platform based in Karnataka, along with its English-language counterpart Timesnib, has taken early steps toward expanding its content strategy to the United States.
Though not formally announced, the development comes as part of a gradual shift to engage readers beyond India, particularly within the Kannada-speaking diaspora and global audiences interested in regional Indian affairs.
Established in March 2019 by Satish Raj Goravigere, Kannada News Today has built a strong presence through its focus on current events, entertainment, technology, and business reporting in the Kannada language. Over time, the launch of Timesnib enabled the team to deliver similar content in English, catering to a broader demographic with interest in both regional and national developments.
Sources close to the publication indicate that collaborations with US-based news distributors began earlier in 2025, marking a strategic step in the platform’s evolution. These partnerships are expected to enhance the international visibility of select stories while creating room for cross-border media exchange.
The organization has been at the forefront of digital experimentation in recent years, including the use of AI-generated news anchors, one of the first such implementations in Karnataka. In addition to content innovation, it has supported grassroots journalism through recognition programs and skill-building efforts, like the Sadhana Hyper-Local Journalism Awards.
With the international push, Timesnib is likely to serve as the primary channel for stories that intersect with global themes or interest the diaspora, while Kannada News Today continues its core coverage from Karnataka. Though the project remains in its initial stages, recent editorial shifts and content directions strongly signal the group’s intent to be part of a broader, globally aware media environment.
This movement also aligns with a larger pattern seen across Indian digital media where regional publishers are expanding their footprint through multilingual strategies and global distribution. As access to digital news continues to rise internationally, such steps may help regional voices from Karnataka find new relevance and resonance in a connected world.
As part of the expansion, they’ve started working with US-based media networks and contributors. The new office setup in the US is a sign of their long-term commitment to this shift. Editorial themes are beginning to reflect more diaspora stories, tech updates, and international affairs
